Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I know whether a particular therapist is right for me?

  2. What does initiating therapy look like with you?

    • I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we might be a good fit. I will inquire about your goals for therapy and if you have any prior experience of mental health treatment. You should ask any questions you have about my professional experience or what therapy with me will look like. If we both agree to proceed after the consultation, we would then schedule a 60 minute intake appointment.

    • Especially at the beginning of treatment, appointments will be weekly at an agreed upon time for 50 minutes. It is possible over time that we may reduce frequency of sessions if you have moved closer to your goals in therapy.

    • The length of treatment will vary depending on what you would like to address. Many people experience significant relief within a few months when addressing targeted issues, while others choose to continue exploring deeper work. We will periodically review your treatment goals and progress to determine whether our therapy is effective in meeting your specific needs.

  3. Do you see patients virtually or in person?

    • At this time, I provide psychotherapy entirely online. Studies have demonstrated that virtual therapy can be as effective as in person therapy. It is important with teletherapy that you be located in a private space where you feel comfortable to freely express yourself with access to adequate technology (i.e. a computer and stable internet connection).

  4. Are therapy sessions confidential?

    • Yes. Confidentiality is vitally important to the therapeutic process and is also required by law. You have the right to confidentiality unless the information you share presents threat or risk to self, others, minors, seniors, and other vulnerable populations or if there is a court order or legal subpoena for records.

    • Furthermore, a formally signed HIPAA consent must be completed if you request that I communicate with a third party. In these instances, we would discuss the specific information that would be released.

  5. Do you accept insurance?

    • I accept several insurances via Headway. Please visit my Headway profile if you would like to see whether I am in network with your insurance plan.

  6. What if you do not accept my insurance?

    • I also qualify as an out-of-network provider with most insurance panels. If I do not directly accept your insurance, you may still be able to utilize out of network benefits for our therapy sessions. My private pay fee is $300 for intake and $275 for ongoing psychotherapy.

    • Though you will be responsible for payment upon service, I will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement on a monthly basis.

    • I can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your co-insurance would be.

    • Reimbursement rates vary, but many insurance policies cover a significant portion of fees after meeting an annual deductible (often 60% to 80%). Many patients are also able to use their insurance based flexible healthcare spending accounts for reimbursement for therapy.

  7. Do you offer a sliding scale?

    • I have a limited number of openings for sliding scale patients based on financial need and individual circumstances. If my full fee is a barrier to starting therapy, please feel free to reach out to discuss further.

  8. Do you provide Good Faith Estimates (for private pay patients)?:

    • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) explaining how much your medical care will cost. Upon scheduling your first appointment, if you would like me to provide you with a GFE, please request this and I will send it to you.

    • For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

  9. What forms of payment do you accept?

    • I accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA debit cards. Your card will be kept on file and it will be charged at the end of each session through a secure, HIPAA compliant, online portal.

  10. What is your cancellation policy?

    • If you do not attend a scheduled appointment, or if you cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours notice, you are responsible for the full session fee. If you need to reschedule an appointment, and do so more than 48 hours in advance, all efforts will be made to reschedule for another day/time within the same week.
